If last week's osso bucco recipe taught you about the ease of set it and forget it recipes, then this Wagyu sesame beef recipe one's the payoff for a busy weeknight when you might have forgotten to plan ahead. Asian sesame beef is one of our favorite meals to whip up without a lot of planning. A quick marinade does most of the work while you prep, and once that wagyu stew meat hits a hot pan, dinner's on the table in well under an hour — glossy, a little sweet, a little savory, and gone almost as fast as we serve it.
Ingredients
1–2 lbs wagyu stew meat
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tbsp sesame oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
3 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp oil, for searing
1 red onion, sliced
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
1 cup broccoli florets
1/2 cup rice wine or sake
Sesame seeds, for garnish
Cooked rice, for serving
Directions
Whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, brown sugar, and cornstarch. Pour over the stew meat and marinate for at least 30 minutes (while you prep and cook the veggies).
Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the onion, bell peppers, and broccoli, and stir-fry until tender-crisp, about 4–5 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
In the same pan, add the beef, reserving the marinade, and sear until browned, about 3–4 minutes.
Return the vegetables to the pan along with the reserved marinade, and toss to coat. Cook 1–2 minutes more, until the sauce thickens and clings to the beef and vegetables.
Deglze pan with rice wine or sake
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve hot over rice.
