A Wagyu Calf Birth - Tomikos Miss Steak - Crisis Averted

It was January 8. Tim's last full day of working at Kaemark.

After 52 years of showing up, putting in the work, and trusting God's timing, retirement was finally almost here. It was the kind of morning that called for a deep breath and a grateful heart.

But the farm doesn't wait for milestone moments.

The last Morning of regular work days for Tim

Tim had left for work and I was getting ready to leave when I noticed our dogs, Peaches and Pepper, were going absolutely wild. They were barking, chasing, and creating chaos.

And the target of all that energy? Tomiko, our wagyu cow, was very close to her due date — a wagyu calf birth we didn't expect to happen while Tim had just left for his last morning at work.

Peaches and Pepper, were cow dogs that we acquired because someone dumped them nearby last year, and they had recently been caught killing chickens, so they were already wearing training collars.

I grabbed the remotes, pressed the buttons, and the dogs stopped instantly - crisis averted.

I headed off to work, said a prayer, and trusted the day to the Lord.

That evening, when Tim got home from his last full day of work, he went to feed a round bale to the herd.  As he looked in the back pasture, there was Tomiko, standing there with the most perfect little calf you've ever seen.

Miss Steak had arrived.

Although she was born a little early, she was healthy, strong, and full of life.

I searched through the security camera footage to piece together the timeline, and discovered that I pressed those collar remotes to stop the chase about 30 minutes before our little Miss Steak was born

Thirty minutes. That's all the time there was between a potential tragedy and a beautiful new life entering the world.Thank you, Jesus.
