Weise Farms Wagyu — The Heifer Who Crossed an Ocean

The Heifer the Buyers Passed Up

The Texas Wagyu Association sale in Fort Worth is not a small event. It draws serious breeders, serious buyers, and serious money. When Wyndford Tomiko 322L walked into the ring, buyers were waiting — but they were waiting for her sisters, who sold later that day for $240,000 each.

Tomiko did not meet her reserve price.

She left Fort Worth without a new home, and our friend Kenny Landgraf of Landgraf Ranch brought her to his place to keep her safe until arrangements could be made to send her back to Wynford Wagyu in Wales.

We were looking for a heifer to be a companion for Emperor. When we went out to visit Kenny at Landgraf Ranch, there she was.

The Offer We Never Expected to Work for Weise Farms Wagyu

We knew who she was and we knew what she could mean for Weise Farms Wagyu. Dual registered in both the American Wagyu Association and the Australian Wagyu Association, with a Tajima bloodline that runs deep on both sides of her pedigree — she was exactly the kind of heifer that does not come available very often, and almost never at a price a small farm like ours could reach.

Tajima is the most prized bloodline within the Japanese Black Wagyu breed — the genetics behind the legendary Kobe beef you have heard about your whole life.

Tomiko carries the Itoguni line, known globally for record-breaking marbling scores. Emperor carries the Arubial United line, celebrated as the King of Combination Traits in the Wagyu breed. Both rank in the top single digits for marbling worldwide.

We made an offer anyway. We did not think it would work.

We received a counter offer. We accepted it without hesitation.

To this day, we believe God had a hand in that moment.

The Day "My Girl" Came Home

We brought Wyndford Tomiko 322L home to Weise Farms and put her in the pasture with Emperor. What happened next made us smile from ear to ear.

When these two animals met in that pasture at Weise Farms, we did not fully understand yet what God had just put together. They were immediately smitten with each other.

Standing there watching them, I could hear the tune "My Girl" playing in my head. After capturing their love at first sight, I was compelled to make a reel about it, and we think you will love it! Just click the photo below to see it on our YouTube channel. And while you are there, we'd love it if you subscribe to it!

Tomiko meets Emperor while the tune of "My Girl" played in my head.

Tomiko is everything we hoped she would be — and then some. She crossed an ocean, survived a sale that did not go as planned, and found her way to our little Wagyu farm in Texas where she is very much loved.

The best part? Her story is just getting started. Stay tuned — because what we discovered next was something we never saw coming. You'll get to read about it in our next blog post.

Many of our customers join both, and we always show our appreciation with a little something extra for those who do.

Weise Farms Wagyu Beef Filet Mignon

OMG! That filet was amazing. Coarse salt and pepper crusted, wrapped in bacon, seared in a smoking hot cast iron skillet, flipped and  finished in a 500 degree oven. Killer!

We had a couple of friends over Saturday and I served them Weise Farms wagyu smoked beef ribs. They melted in your mouth!! The flavor was rich and creamy.
